Interesting Reads of Exceptional People

Hello there.

Glad you found this site and glad you’re curious as to what a Buzz Ponce is. Really nothing special -- just a weird name. The moniker Buzz is my father’s fault – he just liked it. The surname is Slavic; most probably my grandfather as an émigré to the US, shortened a 20-letter last name to something a little more pronounceable when he went through Ellis Island in 1912. Put the two together and there you have it: Buzz Ponce.

Well, that’s too much information – but wait: there’s more!

After teaching high school journalism in San Diego County for eight years, I left education and entered sales. I liked selling yearbooks so much to schools in southern California for Jostens, I kept at it for 21 years. But I jumped ship to industry rival Herff Jones in 2001 and stayed in the business another ten years as an area sales manager before retiring in 2011.

And then I started a project that I first began in 1969 – writing a book about a person who had a profound impact on me at an early age: Frank Buncom. The result is Finding Frank: Full Circle in a Life Cut Short. Importantly, I hope I’ve done Frank justice in recounting his life.

Will there be other books? I’m mulling over a few possible ideas, but nothing concrete at this point.

My wife Susan and I reside in Fountain Hills, Arizona with our rescue pup, Henry.
